Hi, I’m Dr. Alexus Bonapart!
I made my way to San Diego in 2019 to pursue my passion for naturopathic medicine at Bastyr University. I was born in West Virginia and have spent countless summers in a small town there with my grandparents, but I primarily grew up in North Carolina. San Diego has since captured my heart, and I’m thrilled to plant my roots here—though every now and then, my Southern twang still makes an appearance!
I spent a lot of time with my grandparents, which is where I developed a deep appreciation for one of nature’s greatest medicines—food

I have always been in awe of my grandparents’ green thumbs, as well as how abundant their gardens consistently are. Some of my fondest memories involve my grandmother preparing us meals, using the fruits and vegetables we had spent months planting and harvesting. She has a deep respect and preference for homegrown, nourishing foods, and she is physically active, so it was a huge shock to our family when she unexpectedly had to undergo emergency double bypass heart surgery. She actually ended up needing to have a quadruple bypass instead.
This experience is what inspired me to become a doctor. A curiosity had been sparked within me, and I needed to understand the bigger picture of health. How did my grandmother, someone who seemed to live so healthily, still need such an invasive procedure at 61 years old? It wasn’t until after I graduated from college that I discovered naturopathic medicine—and with it, many of the answers I had been seeking.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biology with a concentration in Pre-Health (with Honors) from Western Carolina University in 2017. The campus is nestled in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina – truly a stunning and breathtaking place. During my time there, I also became a proud member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
Post-graduation, I had begun to see health as a dynamic, interconnected whole—where the mind, body, and spirit continuously influence one another. I developed a deeper appreciation for the complex relationship between diet, lifestyle, environmental factors, and emotional well-being.
I came to believe that true healing is not only possible—it’s attainable when we uncover and treat the root causes of illness. That belief led me to naturopathic medicine, a field that deeply resonated with me and aligned with my values. I quickly developed a passion for natural medicine, and from that point on, I knew I wanted to become a holistic doctor trained in alternative medicine therapies.
In 2024, I graduated from Bastyr University California with my Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine. My approach to healing blends evidence-based natural treatments with time-honored holistic practices. I have a special interest in botanical medicine, homeopathy, and addressing determinants of health. I’m also trained in Craniosacral Therapy (CST), Reiki, flower essences, and Biofeedback—powerful modalities I’ve seen transform many lives, including my own.
During my second year of medical school, I was finally diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury (TBI)—something I had unknowingly been suffering from since a car accident just before starting school the year before. I had been experiencing debilitating migraines, extreme anxiety, brain fog, bouts of fatigue, difficulties with learning and speech, and an overall feeling of “not myself.” It wasn’t until a classmate offered me my very first CST session that everything began to shift.
Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle, hands-on modality that uses light touch to assess and release restrictions within the body’s fascia. This encourages healthy movement of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), improving circulation and activating the parasympathetic nervous system – supporting deep relaxation, pain relief, emotional balance, and immune function. That session was the first time in a very long time I had felt like me. CST not only helped me see there was a deeper issue I was dealing with—it also gave me the clarity and resilience I needed to pursue proper care. It truly saved my life and has since become one of my favorite tools to support patients, friends, and family. I’ve witnessed its effectiveness time and again, and I’m still amazed by its power.
When I’m not immersed in the world of naturopathic medicine, you can find me crocheting, gaming, exploring nature, attending music events, cooking, caring for my plants, and cherishing time with my loved ones.
I look forward to being your naturopathic doctor! It is truly an honor to be a part of your health journey, and I am committed to providing you the compassionate, personalized, exceptional care and holistic treatments you deserve.
